RIVER QUOTES

These are quotes I really liked, that I got from Rio's Attic.

"One thing I would like to do when I have the money is buy thousands of acres in the Brazilian rain forest and make a national park, so no one can bulldoze it to put a MacDonald's there."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I've just bought 800 acres of forest on the border of Panama and Costa Rica. I want to buy the last "first growth forest" and turn it into a national park. It's a human tragedy of immense proportions. Many native Indians in that region are losing their homes daily, and it's going to affect both you and me, because that's where most of the world's oxygen comes from. The Amazon rain forests are the world's lungs and without them we will not be able to breath. It's a very scary thought and it's not too far off."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"In my Utopic world, I'd live on a tropical island without any industrialization or pollution. I'd be able to fly up the mountain range nearby where there was snow, then make a sled out of an old stump and ski down the mountain to the bottom where I could bathe and swim in a running river and meet up with a group of friends."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We never treated them like children but like extra added friends. And they have always held up their part of the deal. It was never like, 'We know better because we're the parents'. It was more like, 'This is the first time we've ever done this too. What do you think?' And the children were so wise. If we made a mistake, we made it together. But if you open yourself up, a way presents itself. You find the right path."-Heart on the kids

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I have a good battery charger at home. I get back into the family and plug in. I'll always want to spend a lot of time at Camp Phoenix."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"That's the only time I have security. Myself is a bum! Myself is nothing! I'm a peon. I'm an idiot. I'm totally removed. I'm in the closet. I'm out of sight. You can't touch me!" -About Playing A role

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have twenty personalities on top of the ten I already have. So now I have thirty people in my head!-About His Roles

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When I was old enough to realize all meat was killed, I saw it as an irrational way of using our power, to take a weaker thing and mutilate it. It was like the way bullies would take control of younger kids in the schoolyard."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I mean, if they can make a plutonium generator that will orbit Jupiter and stay there for forty-three years, surely they can make a receipt that will save paper? Drives me nuts! We have amazing superpower technology that will now never be needed to be devoted to arms, and instead of putting money into building safe sewers and protecting the groundwater, they.... they.... can't even make a damn birth control device that will limit the world's population."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I will say that I really feel sorry for all the true hippies that have to deal with me in the press as their poster child. I'm certainly not a good example of what the pure American hippie is. I find it quite hilarious every time that I see something as lame as Sassy's article about 'River Phoenix and His Little Hippie Band'. All that sort of stuff to me is like, 'Please, don't insult the hippie families of America by using us as their poster children'. It's just ridiculous. It underrates true hippies. It's a way of life, not an appearance."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"We had a vision that our kids could captivate the world"-Heart

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Im praying that I don't win. I dont want to get up there and accept it. Its not my thing to get up there at the alter and give myself praise and look good. I dont think its fair to these actors who have been around alot longer than me. Thats not courteous respect to them. My feelings is that if I win, it'll be  because of politics."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It was a great stepping stone. I learned to play guitar there - my sister Rain and I got interested in performing. It was a neat time growing up in Venezuela in the late seventies."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When I was in first grade, everyone made fun of my name, of course. I think it's kind of a big name to hold up when you're nine years old. It seemed goofy. I used to tell people I wanted to change the world and they used to think, 'This kid's really weird'."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Rich kids gave us their old clothes. They were the best clothes we ever had. We were these very pure, naïve, poor children. The rich kids called us a lot of names but it never bothered us because we didn't know what the words meant."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want kids, a family of my own. I would like to give them the first 8 years of their lives in the country.  Then I want them educated, which I wasnt formally, although I had a tutor when I was twelve. At times I miss a formal education, but at others i thank God for everything else I have now. What I got from my childhood arent toys, but memories. And happy memories are better than any toy"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

W moved around alot. When I was four years old, I heard "Fire and Rain" alot. So we were in Mexico, and I was playing with a flashlight that was going dead, and we couldn't afford anymore batteries. My father asked me to please stop, but I wanted to see how far I could push someone, so I kept turning it on and off.  He said "Could you please stop this? with a stern voice, took it from my hand, put it in the glove box ,and slammed it.  The song was playing the whole time, and thats what stuck with me. I felt this tremble, this fear of authority and I felt I understood that I have to respect people. That was the reason behind it. That was the first concept of reality as far as relationships go. I saw there is not just this world of vagueness that you can bounce off of" -in central America, in the old van turned mobile home.

''One time we were up in the mountains, and the clouds came right up to the top of the mountain. River grabbed [my] arm and said, "We're going to run and jump into these clouds and whole past lives will disolve, and everything will be new from then on. Hold on." And we did that...it was incredible, and we landed on this soft iceberg kind of ground covering. But we jumped through clouds, literally."-William Richert- director, Jimmy Reardon'
